Perfect weather!

This spring and beginning of summer, the question we have answered the most to our guests is 'What's with the weather?' Or 'Is this weather normal here this time of the year?'
Mostly we answer 'No, it's not normal' or 'Well, there is really nothing we can do about it'.
It really has been much colder and wetter than 'normal'. In March it rained 4 times the normal average amount, and it was the second coldest March in the history of Portugal (since the measurements begun).
It HAS been cold.  It HAS rained a lot. Yes, we still have heaters on in the rooms in JUNE! Unheard of! But it is not raining continuously. Luckily it is nothing you cannot cope with, with a coat or a sweater. As we are entering the month when summer officially begins, we keep hoping that the morning shower of each day will be the last one. And we also keep hoping that the fall will be like last year - beautiful weather until the end of November!

To me the weather has not been so bad.  True, the garden works were delayed, and the painting is still not finished. But there are the flowers!  The wonderful scent in the fresh air! The green fields! It has been perfect weather for hiking and riding the bike. Paragliding has also been good with sufficient winds.  It seems Sintra has never been as full of
cyclers as now.  In my morning walks with the dogs, I collect bouquets of flowers daily, one more beautiful than the other. The fruits are delayed in general, but the strawberry season has been prolonged. There is always a positive side to everything.

Yet we should not think of the weather as positive OR negative. It is - and we cannot influence it one way or another.  All we can do is prepare and act according to whatever comes.  Sintra is not, nor ever was, a beach destination.  It is a destination with also a beach in it. A destination that lends itself well to active, outdoor sports.  It is a destination with fresh, clean nature and beautiful architecture; culture, history and landscaping extraordinaires.  Be it warm or cold, humid or dry, the history is the same and the nature remains.

This is Sintra.
